Duties:
| The Supervisor, Cenovus Energy Hub operations will provide leadership to operations staff throughout Arenas department including Cenovus Energy Hub, Russ Robertson and Archie Miller Arenas to ensure facilities are operating to a high standard and maintained efficiently and safely. Provide input on bookings and staff scheduling solutions in an effort to meet optimal efficiency. Oversee the general maintenance of all mechanical systems and ensuring that operations staff has a general understanding of all facets of the facility. Leading and managing the safety management system within the facility. Providing guidance to operations staff on: event setup, takedowns, overall event assistance, customer relations; expectations in their daily requirements, team-building, ice condition and overall smooth operation of facility.
Leadership and Supervision- Oversees team’s day-to-day operations in providing exceptional customer service experience.
- Sets clear expectations, monitors, evaluates, and ensures performance discussions are being completed, maintaining two-way dialogues on work and results.
- Provides direction to employees by planning, assigning and supervising work.
- Provides insightful, motivating and constructive feedback, coaching and guidance.
- Assist in supervising and coordinating the installation, maintenance and breakdown of ice surfaces, meeting rooms, and dry floor events / activities.
- Encourages an environment that fosters respect and teamwork. Empowers individuals and teams to want to do their best.
- Creates and publishes employee schedules on a monthly basis; approves time off requests and reviews daily time sheets for authorization.
- Undertakes the necessary steps involved with the hiring process; trains staff and ensures optimal performance from all assigned staff.
- Supervises the facility through the monitoring of staff, facility checklists, receiving customer feedback and conducting facility inspections and walk-throughs.
- Ensure proper organization and scheduling of activities as required for the most cost effective and efficient use of assigned staff and maintain favourable personnel relations.
- Creates a culture that values, supports, and reflects diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Provide assistance to staff if required in an emergency situation.
Safety and Environment- Ensures all staff, volunteers, practicum students and contractors are properly trained and can carry out their duties in a safe and responsible manner.
- Completes department specific orientation for new employees.
- Educates existing employees on new and updated safety policies and procedures.
- Develops required Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Practices (SWPs).
- Ensures all safety equipment is inspected on a regular basis.
- Ensures regulatory and Occupational Health and Safety compliance with all aspects of operations.
- Ensures all health and safety required training for staff is up to date.
- Monitors health and safety risks and hazards in the workplace.
- Advises employees on how to minimize or ultimately avoid risks and hazards in the workplace.
- Trains all employees to manage, monitor and improve the health and safety standards in the workplace.
- Assigns and supervises monthly health and safety inspections.
- Assists with the creation and management of health and safety monitoring systems and policies in the workplace.
- Assists in managing emergency procedures (such as fire alarm drills) and organizing emergency teams such as fire marshals and first aiders.
- Manages incidents and responds according to established Emergency Response Procedure.
- Offers general health and safety advice to all employees by facilitating safety meetings.
- Provides directive to the staff on evenings and weekends (is on-call during evening and weekend shifts) during emergency situations and incidents.
- Conducts incident investigation and follow-up corrective actions.
- Management Safety Coordinator for the facility.
Budget Management- Assists with forecasting future budget needs – salaries and departmental needs.
- Suggests spending improvements that increase profits and reduces costs.
- Works with Manager, CEH to monitor and control the budget, ensuring expenditures and revenues are in compliance with sound financial management practices and budget plan.
- Follows purchasing procedures that are compliant with the City’s purchasing policy.
- Monitors performance and seeks efficiencies; seeks opportunities for cost-saving measures.
- Understands the implications of financial decisions and impact on the department.
Communication and Customer Service- Build cohesive relationships with suppliers, contractors, and other City Departments with a strong focus on customer service.
- Respond to complaints and inquiries from the public, maintains good public relations and a high quality of service to the public.
- Ensure all facility stakeholders and leaseholders are provided with information prior to any disruption of facilities. Such as events, projects, emergency repairs, and any other items that may interrupt regular business.
Operation- Responsible for ice quality, ice operations & routine maintenance of CEH ice surfaces.
- Ensuring that facility is clean and ready to serve user groups through regular spot checking of facility including washrooms, stands, supplies and general look and feel.
- Create Request for Quotes as required by the Cities Purchasing Policy.
- Troubleshoot problems for all operational systems within the facility, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and security.
- Perform as Acting Manager when required in the absence of the Manager, Cenovus Energy Hub and Arena’s.
- Oversee the delivery of in-house and contracted projects.
- Research and provide recommendations on new technology that may improve operational efficiency.

Qualifications: | - Completion of a one-year post-secondary certificate in Recreation Facility Maintenance and Management from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of three years’ experience working in recreation facility plant operations and maintenance.
- Accreditation in Recreational Facility Maintenance, and Rink Operations. Pool Operations considered an asset.
- 3 years of related work experience with facility ‘ice operations.’
- Thorough working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies related to recreation facility maintenance required.
- Arena Operations Level 1 & level 2 an asset.
- Building Maintenance Level 1 & level 2 an asset.
- A combination of education and directly related work experience will be considered.
- Must have excellent communications skills.
- Must be proficient with computers with basic to intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Suite including: Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, contractors, and other City employees.
- Ability to maintain a high standard of ethics and confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and to deal with complaints in a tactful manner.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with an acceptable Driver’s Abstract is required. This position may be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business purposes.
