Duties: 

As the Cybersecurity Analyst with the City of Lloydminster’s Information Technology department, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing organizational security architecture as well as maintaining and enhancing the integrity and security of our computing environment. The role will include responsibilities such as forming and enhancing network security policies and procedures, collaboration with several internal and external groups, designing/maintaining a robust security architecture, vulnerability management, incident management, security awareness, and management of EDR/MDR tools.  

This position demands a strong understanding of security protocols and standards, networking principles, and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential risks.  You will also be working with business units to develop, implement and promote an information security and risk-aware culture following an Enterprise Security Risk Management (ESRM) approach. Primary duties include: 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Contribute to the formulation, enforcement, and ongoing enhancement of the City’s cybersecurity policies and procedures. 

  • Be the subject matter expert, research and deliver specialized security insights, foster collaboration, and advance organizational security objectives. 

  • Coordinate security initiatives as a subject matter expert to develop practical solutions and ensure compliance. 

  • Evaluate, recommend, and collaborate with team members to implement security enhancements to fortify our network against emerging threats. 

  • Collaborate with other city departments, other municipalities, external vendors, and security focused government agencies to monitor vulnerabilities, share information, and increase knowledge to address network security requirements.     

  • Design, implement, and maintain a robust security architecture for the City network environment. 

  • Recommend, implement, and manage advanced network security monitoring tools to proactively identify any security incidents or vulnerabilities. 

  • Evaluate security requirements for new software and hardware solutions in the City, providing recommendations and documenting and implementing decisions. 

  • Review and assess vulnerabilities in systems and provide right-sized solutions. 

  • Coordinate with managed service provider(s) to analyze security events and determine appropriate action(s) in our environment. 

  • Configure and manage EDR/MDR tools including automated playbooks and alerts.  

  • Responsible to identify and collaborate on advanced threats, anomalous or suspicious activity, and other cyber incidents.  

  • Perform as the cybersecurity incident response lead, responsible to identify and collaborate on anomalous or suspicious activity, and other cyber incidents.  

  • Collaborate with Information Technology management to develop and maintain comprehensive incident response documentation and procedures. 

  • Manage the Security awareness training program and provide guidance and training on security best practices to staff and end-users. 

  • Accurately track and log issues from start to resolution through an IT ticket management system.

  • Other related duties as required. 

Schedule: 

Normal working hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with the occasional requirement to work outside these standard hours. This position may also be required to work on call shifts. 

Qualifications: 

  • Completion of a two-year post secondary diploma in Information Technology from a recognized institution.  

  • A minimum 5 years of enterprise information security and network design experience.   

  • Certifications in Cybersecurity (such as CISSP, SSCP, GSEC, Certified Ethical Hacker) 

  • Working knowledge of industry standard security controls such as NIST, CIS or ISO27001.  

  • Proficiency in using security and network monitoring tools, including EDR/MDR solutions. 

  • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs, and firewalls using Cisco network hardware. 

  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. 

  • Customer centric focused approach, proven ability to work in a team environment, and exceptional attention to detail. 

  • Ability to maintain a high standard of ethics and confidentiality. 

  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with an acceptable Driver’s Abstract is required. This position may be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business purposes.
